A text watermark is a string of characters you type directly into the tool — common examples include CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, DO NOT DISTRIBUTE, FOR REVIEW ONLY, or a company name. The text is rendered using a PDF Type1 or TrueType font and drawn as a vector object on each page of the output. Because vector text is described mathematically rather than as a pixel grid, it scales without degradation at any zoom level or print resolution, looks identically crisp at 72 DPI screen preview and 1200 DPI laser-printer output, and adds only a few hundred bytes per page to the output file size. A text watermark is the best choice for legal and compliance labels, document-status markers, and organizational identifiers. An image watermark uses a raster graphic file — typically a PNG logo, company seal, signature image, or graphic emblem — that you upload separately. The tool places a scaled copy of this image on each PDF page as an image XObject at the opacity, position, rotation, and size you configure. Image watermarks work best when your organization's identity is primarily visual (a complex logo mark, a colored seal, a handwritten signature) that cannot be meaningfully reproduced in text characters. PNG images with transparent backgrounds work best because the transparency allows the watermark to overlay page content without blocking it with an opaque rectangle. Both watermark types support the full range of position, opacity, and rotation controls in the tool. You can also apply both types simultaneously — for example, placing a diagonal DRAFT text label across the center of each page and a small company logo in the bottom-right corner. WikiPlus PDF Watermark runs entirely in your browser, so neither your source PDF nor your watermark image is uploaded to any server. Tip: for text watermarks intended as legal notices, use a font size between 40 and 80 points and opacity between 20% and 40% — legible enough to read but light enough not to obscure the underlying document content.

Le filigrane sera-t-il supprimable avec Acrobat ou un autre éditeur PDF ?

A watermark applied by WikiPlus PDF Watermark is embedded into each page's content stream as a drawing instruction — either a text rendering command or an image XObject reference, depending on the watermark type you used. This makes the watermark a permanent visual element that prints exactly as displayed, is visible to any PDF viewer, and cannot be hidden by toggling an annotation layer. However, a skilled user with Adobe Acrobat Pro, Nitro PDF, or similar professional editing software can identify the watermark as a content-stream object and remove or overwrite it with some effort, because the underlying page structure remains accessible in an unencrypted PDF. The watermark provides a strong visual deterrent and a clear legal disclosure, but it does not constitute tamper-proof protection against a determined editor with professional tools. If your threat model requires that the watermark survive active attempts at removal, two additional measures improve resistance significantly. First, combine the watermarked PDF with WikiPlus PDF Password Protect: setting an owner password blocks editing commands in compliant PDF viewers and requires the password to open the document in an editor. Second, if legal validity of the document with the watermark applied is required, apply a digital signature using WikiPlus PDF Sign after watermarking — this creates a cryptographic hash over the complete document content, including the watermark layer, making any post-signature modification detectable by any signature-aware PDF reader. For draft sharing, internal review distribution, and proof-of-concept delivery to clients, a text or image watermark provides adequate deterrence for all practical purposes. Tip: for maximum coverage, use the tile mode which repeats the watermark in a dense grid across the full page — this makes selective removal much more difficult without full page reconstruction.

Puis-je contrôler l'opacité, l'angle et la position du filigrane ?

Yes, WikiPlus PDF Watermark provides precise control over every visual parameter of the watermark. Opacity is adjustable from 10% to 100% in 1% increments. At 10–20%, the watermark is faintly visible — appropriate for subtle copyright branding on portfolio pages or supplier identification on internal documents where the watermark should not compete with the primary content. At 30–50%, the watermark is clearly readable without obscuring normal reading of the underlying text, which is the standard range for DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, and similar document-status labels. At 80–100%, the watermark is fully solid and dominates the page, suitable for VOID or CANCELLED stamps on superseded documents. Rotation is adjustable from −90° to +90° in 1° increments. The classic diagonal placement at 45° is the most widely recognized watermark style and is the hardest to ignore, making it the best choice for confidentiality and draft labels. Horizontal (0°) placement works well for company names, page footers, and copyright lines. Vertical (90°) placement suits narrow side-margin branding. Position controls include nine named preset locations — top-left, top-center, top-right, center-left, center, center-right, bottom-left, bottom-center, bottom-right — plus a tile mode that repeats the watermark in a uniform grid across the entire page at user-specified spacing intervals. For text watermarks, font size is also configurable from 8 to 200 points. For image watermarks, size scales from 10% to 100% of the page width. All settings apply uniformly to every page in the document. A live preview panel updates in real time as you adjust any control, showing the watermark appearance on a representative page before you commit to the export. Tip: use 45° rotation at 30% opacity with center placement for the most universally legible DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL label across documents of any page size.

Cela fonctionne-t-il sur les PDF chiffrés ou les PDF avec des champs de formulaire ?

Password-protected PDFs must be decrypted before the watermark tool can process them. If the source PDF has a user-open password that encrypts the content streams, the watermark tool cannot read the page drawing commands and therefore cannot inject watermark content into them. The fix is to run the file through WikiPlus PDF Unlock with the correct password first — this produces a local decrypted copy in your browser without transmitting the password or file content to any server. Then load the unlocked copy into WikiPlus PDF Watermark and proceed. For PDFs with interactive form fields (AcroForm text inputs, checkboxes, radio buttons, combo boxes, signature fields), the watermark is applied as an additional drawing layer on each page content stream independently of the form field annotation layer. This means form fields remain fully interactive after watermarking: users can still type in text fields, check boxes, make selections, and submit forms. The watermark visually overlays the form content but does not modify the field annotations or disrupt form submission logic. Existing annotations, highlights, sticky notes, bookmarks, and hyperlinks are similarly preserved because the watermark injection touches only the page content stream, not the document's annotation array or outline tree. Digital signatures are the one exception requiring careful attention. A digital signature in a PDF creates a cryptographic hash over the entire document at the moment of signing. Any subsequent modification to the document — including adding a watermark — invalidates that hash, causing signature-aware readers like Adobe Acrobat to display a warning that the document has been modified since signing. If the original signed state must remain verifiable, you have two options: apply the watermark before the digital signature step, or re-sign the watermarked output with a new certificate after watermarking. Tip: always verify that form fields remain operable in the watermarked output by opening it in Adobe Acrobat Reader and testing at least one field before distributing the document.
