Cookies Policy

1. Introduction
This Cookies Policy explains how WikiPlus, operated by PlusMedia360 SAS, uses cookies and similar technologies on the website at wikiplus.co (the "Service"). It is a companion to our Privacy Policy and applies to every page on the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the use of cookies in accordance with this policy and your consent choices.
WikiPlus is engineered to collect as little data as technically possible. We do not set any first-party tracking cookies. The cookies described below are set by the third-party services that keep the site online and free to use — primarily Google AdSense (advertising), an analytics provider (aggregate measurement), and Cloudflare (security and content delivery).
2. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store on your device. The browser then sends those files back to the website on subsequent requests, which lets the site remember information about you — such as your language preference, whether you have consented to advertising cookies, or how many ads you have already seen today. Cookies cannot run code, install software, or access files on your device. They simply hold a small amount of text.
Some technologies have a similar function but are not technically cookies — for example, localStorage and sessionStorage (browser storage APIs), web beacons (1×1 pixel images used to track ad impressions), and device fingerprints. For convenience, this policy uses the word "cookies" to cover all of these technologies.
3. Categories of cookies we use
We group cookies into three categories based on their purpose. You can control the optional categories through the cookie banner shown on your first visit and through the cookie settings link in the footer.
- Strictly necessary: Required for the Service to function — for example, remembering your cookie consent decision or performing security checks at our content-delivery network. These cookies cannot be disabled in your browser settings and are not subject to consent under the ePrivacy Directive.
- Analytics: Help us understand which tools are used most, where visitors come from, and which pages need work. The data is aggregated and does not identify individual visitors. You can opt out at any time.
- Advertising: Used by Google AdSense to deliver advertisements, measure ad performance, and limit how often you see the same ad. In regions that require it (EEA, UK, Switzerland, California), ads are non-personalised by default and become personalised only after you opt in.
4. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for basic functionality and security. They are set automatically and do not require consent.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
wp_consent | wikiplus.co | Stores your cookie consent decision (accepted / rejected / per-category choices) so the banner is not shown on every page. Stored in browser localStorage rather than a cookie, but functions equivalently. | 12 months |
__cf_bm | Cloudflare | Bot-management cookie used by Cloudflare to distinguish humans from bots and protect the site from automated abuse. | 30 minutes |
cf_clearance | Cloudflare | Set when a visitor passes a Cloudflare security challenge, so they are not prompted again on subsequent requests. | Up to 1 year |
5. Analytics cookies
These cookies help us understand traffic patterns and improve the Service. Data is aggregated and does not identify individual visitors. Where required by law, analytics cookies are loaded only after you grant consent.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique visitors by assigning a randomly generated client identifier. Used to compute aggregate visitor counts. | 2 years |
_ga_<container-id> | Google Analytics | Persists session state for Google Analytics 4 (GA4) properties. | 2 years |
_gid | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique visitors within a 24-hour window for legacy analytics scripts. | 24 hours |
6. Advertising cookies
These cookies are set by Google AdSense and its advertising partners to deliver, measure, and personalise ads. In jurisdictions that require it, they are set only after you opt in through the consent banner.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
__gads | Used by Google to measure ad interactions and prevent the same ad from being shown too often (frequency capping). | 13 months | |
__gpi | Stores the Google Publisher ID and ad personalisation choices for non-EU users. | 13 months | |
IDE | Google DoubleClick | Used by Google DoubleClick to register and report your actions on the site after viewing or clicking an ad, for the purpose of measuring effectiveness and showing targeted ads. | 13 months |
NID | Stores user preferences (such as preferred language) and information used to personalise Google ads and search results. | 6 months | |
ANID | Used for ad personalisation across Google services. | 13 months |
You can opt out of personalised Google advertising at any time by visiting adssettings.google.com — this works even if you continue to see ads on the Service. To opt out of advertising cookies set by other AdSense partners, see the third-party tools listed in Section 11 below.
7. Browser storage (localStorage)
In addition to cookies, the Service uses your browser's localStorage to remember UI preferences such as your selected language, theme (light/dark), preferred tool settings, daily usage counter, and consent decision. Data stored in localStorage is created and read entirely by JavaScript on your device — it is never transmitted to our servers. You can clear localStorage at any time by deleting site data in your browser settings.
8. Your consent and how to change it
On your first visit, a consent banner is shown if you are in a region that requires prior consent for non-essential cookies (the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and parts of the United States). You can accept all cookies, reject all non-essential cookies, or customise your choice category by category. Your decision is stored locally and respected for 12 months.
You can change your decision at any time by clicking the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer of any page. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before the withdrawal.
9. How to manage cookies in your browser
All modern browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies. The exact steps differ by browser:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies. See: support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data. See: support.mozilla.org
- Safari (macOS / iOS): Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data. See: support.apple.com
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data. See: support.microsoft.com
- Brave: Settings → Shields → Cookies and other site data.
- Opera: Settings → Privacy & security → Cookies and other site data.
Important: blocking strictly necessary cookies may break parts of the Service — for example, the cookie consent banner may reappear on every page, and some Cloudflare security challenges may loop. Blocking advertising cookies will not stop ads from showing, but the ads will be non-personalised.
10. Industry opt-out tools
Several industry bodies maintain centralised opt-out pages that let you disable advertising cookies from many companies at once:
- Your Online Choices (EU): youronlinechoices.eu
- DAA WebChoices (US): aboutads.info/choices
- Network Advertising Initiative: optout.networkadvertising.org
- Google Ad Settings: adssettings.google.com
11. Changes to this Cookies Policy
We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time as the third-party services we use add, remove, or rename cookies. The current version is always available at wikiplus.co/cookies/ and the date of the latest revision is shown at the top of this page. We recommend checking this page periodically to stay informed.
